A quantitative investigation of English compounds in prose texts

چکیده
The given article deals with a quantitative analysis of English compounds in six novels of the first half of the twentieth century. The objective of the article is twofold: a) we are intended to reveal the most frequent structural patterns of the English compounds statistically; b) it is necessary to determine and measure the cohesion for the English compounds. The material of the research is represented by six novels. Each fifth page has been analyzed there. The results have been statistically processed.

We investigate the maximal length of repeat as a function of the text length in ten English texts. The maximal length of repeat in the experimental data is greater than a power of the logarithm of the text length where the exponent is close to 2.
